And let’s not forget that all this is happening in Matera, one of the most ancient and beautiful cities on earth, where fabulous food and wine are practically a cult. Soak up the magical atmosphere of the ‘Sassi’ while brainstorming your next book and make new friends over incredible meals. The Women’s Fiction Festival is a feast for all the senses.
The magic of books
Ah, the magic of books. There is nothing quite like it. A book is like a magic carpet that can whisk you away to 21st century Manhattan, 19th century Russia, 18th century England. To the mean streets of Los Angeles, the shopping streets of Rome, to the new China. Books can sweep you away to nonexistent worlds too, where you will encounter vampires and werewolves and the Fae.
The 7th International Women’s Fiction Festival will be celebrating the power of books to plunge you into another reality. It is the most magical thing about books—their ability to whisk you away to another world. So we’re focusing on those books that take you away—to another time and place, another world, another universe, even. Who doesn’t want to step out of this humdrum life every once in a while?
Fantasy, paranormal tales, science fiction, even some historicals and thrillers have that ability to make you live another life in another place, where the rules are different and life marches to a different drummer.
Join us from September 23-26 in the enchanted setting of Matera, Italy and be touched by magic!
From the WFF to the bookstores of Italy and beyond
LA CIRCONFERENZA DELLE ARANCE
Maria Gabriella Genisi, LA CIRCONFERENZA DELLE ARANCE - Sonzogno, May 2010
-“After Montalbano’s orange groves, here come the oranges of commissario Lolita. Brusque, sunny, ironic, sensual. A true, unbridled force of nature.” (Gaetano Cappelli) -
Bari has a new police commissioner, Lolita Lo Bosco, nicknamed Lolì. Right from her first day on the job, Lolì has to deal with wagging tongues and influential adversaries who would like nothing better than to bring her career to a screeching halt. To make things even worse, she is handed a case that threatens her private life—Stefano Benedetto Morelli, a 40 year-old social-climbing dentist, is accused of rape. One look is enough to spark memories of a stormy, shared past.
Without the WFF nothing would have happened - says Gabriella Genisi. The WFF has changed my life and I am really grateful to the organizer of the WFF. I would advise all my friends with a manuscript in a drawer to register for the WFF because it offers so many opportunities to meet the right editor or agent, at the right time for your book to get published."
