| Literature gives voice to the world. |

WOMEN'S FICTION FESTIVAL Giving voice to the world is the overarching theme of the 2009 International Women’s Fiction Festival, which is now in its sixth year. The Festival is circling back to the very heart of what writing is about and what literature does—it gives people a voice. From Jane Austen, speaking to and for a new class of literate young women to Toni Morrison, giving a voice to the forgotten people of history, literature is the essence of what it means to be human. Literature expresses the joys and sorrows, the pride, the dreams, the highs and the lows, the loves and the woes of our lives. It uplifts us, allows us to share in our humanity. Good books make us laugh and cry, they give us insights into lives that are foreign to our own, and yet we recognize the emotions running through the characters as the emotions that bind us all together. Literature is life itself. Come celebrate it with us and with our guests: Alan D. Altieri, Elisabetta Bucciarelli, Daria Bignardi, Elisabetta Bricca, Paola Calvetti, Mariangela Camocardi, Alessandra Casella, Clarissa Clark, Rachelle Chase, Silvia Di Natale, Luigi Garlando, Linda Ferri, Cinzia Leone, Mary Leo, Tiziana Merani, Carlotta Mismetti Capua, Letizia Muratori, Elisabetta Rasy, Sylvia Z. Summers, Giuseppina Torregrossa, Cristina Sivieri Tagliabue, Annamaria Testa and other writers from all over the world. BRUNONIA BARRY WINS THE 2009 BACCANTE LITERARY PRIZE
Each year, the Women's Fiction Festival awards its
literary prize, the Baccante award, to someone who has made major
contributions to women's fiction.
The 2009 Baccante Literary Prize goes to Brunonia Barry . An amazing journey through the world of publishing, a debut that turned
a self-published story into a massive global success that saw ‘The Lace
Reader’ land in bookstores the world over. It’s the story of a wounded
woman, a symbol of women readers everywhere, who seeks to understand
and interpret the world around her by delving deep inside herself. An
extraordinary debut by Brunonia Barry, author of ‘The Lace Reader’ and
winner of the 2009 Baccante literary prize. |
