The genre has changed greatly over the years, starting from serialized stories in magazines to US TV series. It includes major international bestsellers, mostly by American women writers, as well as the recent publishing phenomenon, chick lit, the new genre ushered in by Bridget Jones' Diary. In short, women's fiction is an expression of women's deepest, most heartfelt desires, fears, dreams and fantasies.
