The Women's Fiction Festival in Matera, Italy, is a writer's conference with a difference.
It is a relaxed and fun forum for writers, editors, agents and booksellers from all over the world to meet and talk about writing. Four days in the sun of fun and workshopping and networking in the Sassi of Matera.

The Women's Fiction Festival is for all those who love to write and those who love to read. Writers, readers, editors meet during the four days of the Women's Fiction Festival to learn from the panels and workshops about the latest developments in women's fiction.
We never lose sight of the fact that reading and writing are joyous activities and we make sure that the days of the Festival of fun and relaxing.

The Sassi of Matera is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most stunning cityscapes on the face of the earth. It is an ideal location for writers, whether published or not, to workshop their manuscript with editors and other writers.

Mornings are dedicated to panels on the European market, foreign rights and bookselling channels in Europe.
Afternoons are dedicated to meetings with the reading public - booksignings and talks, fun interactive affairs for all those who love books.
This is a chance for English-language writers to meet their European readers - women who passionately love their books and who constitute a major global market. The afternoon events will be with writers, journalists, TV personalities, singers - all those who have a story to tell, whether they write it, film it or sing it. Matera is the perfect setting for a Fiction Festival.

Its Sassi district has become over the years honeycombed with creative labs and workshops of all types - from tufa-stone cutting workshops to ceramics and papier-machè shops, the Sassi are alive with artistic activities.

The Women's Fiction Festival is organized together with Harlequin Mondadori , Italy's leading publisher of women's fiction.

La Baccante

Each year, the Women's Fiction Festival awards its literary prize, the La Baccante award, to someone who has made major contributions to women's fiction. The literary prize is a jewel hand-crafted by a talented local artist. The ‘La Baccante’ prize this year goes to Alicia Gimenez-Bartlett, one of Europe’s finest mystery writers, the winner of the 1997 Feminino Lumen prize as best Spanish writer. The ‘La Baccante’ prize was awarded to Maria Venturi, in 2004 and to Inge Feltrinelli,in 2005.
